Patented Ingredients in Supplements

A patented formulation is a formal protection of a component’s characteristics, such as its manufacturing method, chemical structure, bioavailability level, or stabilization technology. This protection is typically intended to prevent others from copying a proprietary formulation developed by a company through its R&D process.

Patented formulations are usually referred to by a specific name. If the active ingredient name is followed by the symbol ® (registered) or (trademark), that ingredient is most likely a patented or registered formulation.

For example:

  • MecobalActive ® : Patented version of methylcobalamin, the form of vitamin B12.
  • Quali® C : It is a patent-protected form of ascorbic acid (vitamin C). This form is preferred, particularly in food supplements and pharmaceutical products, to ensure high quality, purity, and stability.
  • Albion® Magnesium Bisglycinate : Amino acid chelate technology is patented.
  • K2VITAL ® , MenaQ7 ® : Patented vitamin K2 in MK-7 form.
